Staff Correspondent: The tendency of people to travel to different parts of the country is increasing. With one or two days off besides the weekly holiday, many are now going out with family and friends. As a result, the country’s tourism sector has overcome the disaster in a very short time amid the COVID situation.
After opening the tourist centers in a limited way, the tourists are flocking to main tourist attractions of the country including Cox’s Bazar, St. Martin’s Island, Sajek, Kaptai Lake, Nilgiri, Ratargul, Kuakata, Sundarbans following the hygiene rules. Even in places like Patenga beach, Khoiyachora Waterfalls, Guliakhali Sea Beach, Lawachara National Park, the number of tourists is increasing.
Tourism officials say there are no vacancies in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Rangamati, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and numerous hotels and motels and resorts in Bandarban until next December. Many hotels are not taking any new bookings at this time.
The same images have been seen in domestic airlines. Seats are not available unless booked in advance. In all, the tourism sector is improving again, the tourism officials also say.
According to information obtained from various tourism organizations, Cox’s Bazar is top in the list of tourist attractions. Then there are Rangamati, Bandarban and Sylhet. The list also includes Sundarbans, Kuakata, St. Martin, Panamnagar, etc. Various resorts in Gazipur, near Dhaka, are now very popular for sightseeing.
The Bangladesh Tourism Board is also encouraging tourists to travel in compliance with the hygiene regulations related to Covid-19. The organization has also developed a travel guide for the post-COVID situation.
“A policy has been formulated to keep the tourism business afloat during the COVID period. The government has taken various initiatives to improve the tourism sector. As a result, the number of tourists is increasing,” said Md. Mahibul Haque, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
The country’s tourism sector faced huge losses during the COVID pandemic. But in the meantime, about 90 percent of the tourism sector has overcome the crisis, said Md. Rafiuzzaman, president of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), adding: “Despite the increase of domestic tourists, the number of foreign tourists is still less than before.”
Bangladesh Tourism Corporation and Bangladesh Tourism Board are officially working to expand the tourism industry in the country. In the meantime, the tourism corporation has identified more than 800 tourist spots in all parts of the country. The infrastructure of these tourist centers is also being developed.
