Staff Correspondent: Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka today in a five-day tour to Bangladesh.
A flight of Jet Airways carrying Pranab Mukherjee is expected to land at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:00 pm. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will welcome him in the airport.
An official of Indian High Commission to Dhaka confirmed the matter yesterday. He said that the former Banglalee president of India will stay at the Hotel Sonargoan in the capital city.
It will be the first private visit of Pranab Mukherjee to Bangladesh. During the visit, he will have some engagements in Dhaka and Chittagong.
He will attend the concluding ceremony of a literary conference at Bangla Academy in Dhaka on January 15. He will deliver speech at the convocations of two private universities in Dhaka.
Pranab Mukherjee will also hold talks with President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On January 16, he will attend an event at the Chittaging University. The Indian former president will also visit the home of Masterda Surja Sen, an influential leader of Indian independence movement against the British Rule, at Raozan upazila. The former Indian president will leave Dhaka for New Delhi on January 18.
