Staff Correspondent: The Police Staff College (PSC) has become one of the high standing, professional training institute for local and foreign Police Officers, in respect of providing professional and moral education. The PSC is presently conducting different professional courses in addition to the Masters program for the officers.
It is located in the capital city Dhaka at Mirpur-14, and stands on a total of 19.5 acres of land with an environment of green scenic natural beauty.
The college is ran headed by one of the senior Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) Dr Md Nazibur Rahman, ndc as rector with a team of dedicated, highly educated police officers as faculty member, administrative and researchers. Nazibur Rahman has a track record of successful career police officer with highest level of professionalism, dedication, devotion and honesty. He is the pride of Bangladesh Police.
The rector said, “Training is treated as the key element to enhance the quality of any organization to phase out the challenges of modern era of digitalization. It is important for the discipline services like Police as the operation is constantly changing every moment.”
Police Staff College Bangladesh, the apex training institution for the senior Police officers, started journey as a statutory organization in 2002 under ‘Police Staff College Act 2002’. At present, a Rector of the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police heads the College. Two MDS (Addl. DIG) and four Directors equivalent to the rank of Superintendent of Police assist him. A board of governors headed by Home Minister guides the College management.
The college has a vision for the future to build the highest level of skills among the officers of police forces. The PSC imparts guest speakers from diverse backgrounds for diversifying the knowledge of the officers. Civil servants, academics and professionals from various fields come often to share their thoughts, experiences and ideas with the participants, which have made the institution a center of excellence of professional training.
The rector Nazibur Rahman told Daily Industry: The PSC attaches utmost importance on the quality of training. All the courses are rich-textured, well-focused and quality-assured. With modern training aids and appropriate training methodology, the college establishes congenial learning environment for the participants.
Since establishment on 30 November 2000, the College has imparted training to a good number of officers of different ranks (ASP to DIG). Police Staff College conducts core courses and specialized courses of different tenure, Rahman added.
The PSC is conducting a number of courses in collaboration with foreign partners. Many international organizations like, US Department of Justice, Anti Terrorism Assistance Program of US State Department, Australian Federal Police, NPIA and NTFIU of United Kingdom, German Federal Police, Police Reform Program of UNDP, UNFPA, ICRC, Netherlands and Danish Embassy in Bangladesh have trained the participants in different need based areas.
The rector told that the managerial capability of the college attained the international standard through of the courses. Combating transnational crime, sharing knowledge and experiences, maximizing SAARC police cooperation, and exchanging the best practices of policing are considered the objectives of the course.
Director Training of PSC Masud Karim, who is also a Superintended of Police said that the College has a specialized functional library with a rich collection of books, journals, periodicals and research reports for the benefit of participants, researchers and directing staff of the institution.
