Staff Correspondent: A total of 36 spans of the Padma Bridge has been installed so far, making a 5,400 meter stretch of the main structure visible. If the rest five spans are installed, the 6,150 meter long Padma Bridge will get its full structure. Cent percent of the Multi-Purpose Bridge will be visible. After that, the work of laying rail and road slabs will continue. Authorities hoped that all the spans will be installed before the Victory Day (December 16).
The bridge construction authority said that the 37th span (span 2-C) will be placed on the bridge on November 11 or November 12, 38th on November 16, 39th on November 23 and the 40th on December 2. Besides, the last and 41st span of the Padma Bridge will set up on the 12th and 13th piers of the bridge on December 10, it said. Earlier on November 6, the 36th span of the Padma Bridge has been installed five days after setting up the previous one, making a 5.4 km stretch of the main structure visible. At that time, executive engineer of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Dewan M Abdul Kader said, “After installation of the 36th span, we are hopeful that the rest five spans are likely to be set up by December 10 and through this, the construction of 6.15-kilometre long bridge will be completed.” Munshiganj Correspondent seen that there are three spans in the stockyard outside the construction yard at the Mawa end. The other two spans are also ready inside the workshop. The Padma Bridge is the largest construction infrastructure since the independence of Bangladesh, which was initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The construction work began in December 2014 with own fund. The construction of the main bridge is being made by China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor Company, and the river management is being done by Sino Hydro Corporation of China. The 6.15 km long bridge will have two segments over which road and railways will be set up.
