1650 Sub-Asst Agriculture officers
Golam Mostafa Jibon: Allegation of grabbing huge amount of money through bribery in the name of providing job as Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has intensified against an officer of Livestock Department and also close relative of the Agriculture Minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque.
Meanwhile, a written complaint has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate into the matter by some victims.
According to a recruitment circular published on January 23 in 2018, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) under supervision of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Dhaka University arranged a recruitment examination on August 2 in 2019 with a view to appoint 1,650 manpower at the vacant posts of Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer.
Taking the advantage, Dr Hazi Md Belal Hossain, Project Director of Artificial Insemination (AI) Activities Extension and Embryo Transfer Technology Implementation Project in Livestock Department and also brother-in-law of Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque grabbed huge amount of money from the job seekers alluring them to provide the job by managing the concerned minister. He offered the job opportunity in exchange of Tk 15 lakh each.
On the basis of such as deal, he realized at Tk 2 lakh and some of case at Tk 1 lakh as advance from each candidate before appearing at the recruitment examination. He also asked the job seekers to provide rest Tk 13 lakh after getting the job. Thus, he realized crore of Taka from over 100 candidates.
Masud Rana, a job seeker said, he paid Tk 1 lakh to Dr Belal Hossain on August 1, a day before of the examination, with the hope to get job. During the period, Belal made a promise to provide question paper of the examination to him at the night through mobile phone so that he obtains the examination. But, he failed to keep his promises.
“Even, I could not obtain at the recruitment examination. When, I contacted with him to get back my money, he declined to return the amount,” Masud Rana said.
Dulal Hossain, a resident of Sahebganj in Rayganj upazila of Sirajganj and father-in-law of the job seeker said, they paid Tk 1 lakh and agreed to pay more Tk 14 lakh after selling lands. But, his son-in-law did not get the job and the paid money was misappropriated.
Dulal further said, not only his son-in-law, many job seekers have been swindled by Dr Belal Hossain in the name of job. He misappropriated huge amount of money in this process. He urged the interference of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to take legal action against such illegal activities.
Requesting not to publish report on this regard, Dr Belal Hossain said, “I surrender to you. But, don’t publish any report. If any report is published, the images of Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque will be tarnished,” he said.
When contacted, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque said, “If you publish any report on this regard, people will not believe it. Besides, I did not ask Belal to collect money by using my name for providing jobs.”
