Staff Correspondent: The government will procure 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea from Karnafuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) for FY 2020-21. The total cost in this procurement will be 67.92 crore taka.
According to agriculture ministry sources, a procurement proposal in this regard will be placed at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today for approval.
As per agriculture ministry proposal, the demand for urea fertilizer has been fixed by the Ministry of Agriculture for the fiscal year 2020-2021 at 24,500 metric tonnes and the closing stock at the end of the year has been set at least 500,000 metric tonnes.
As per the demand of the Ministry of Agriculture, the supply-chain of urea fertilizer will have to save a total of 29,500 metric tonness in the fiscal year 2020-2021. According to the demand of the Ministry of Agriculture, the plan to collect urea fertilizer for the fiscal year 2020-2021 was approved by the Ministry of Industries on June 15, sources said. In the approved procurement plan, the import volume has been fixed at 8 lakh metric tonnes for the firm and a total of 12 lakh metric tonnes including optional 4 lakh metric tonnes for dealing with emergencies. Of this, the amount of import from KAFCO has been fixed at 5,50,000 metric tons. Initiatives have been taken to import fertilizers from KAFCO as per the approved procurement plan of the Ministry of Agriculture for uninterrupted supply of fertilizers for mini-peak season, off-peak season after mini-peak season and upcoming peak season as per the demand of 2020-2021 financial year. KAFCO was requested by BCIC (Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation) to send a price offer for import of 30,000 metric tonness of bagged granular urea fertilizer from in the 4th lot of 2020-2021.
