Staff Correspondent: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the government has taken all preparations to make Covid-19 vaccine easily available to the people of Bangladesh as soon as it hits the international market.
“Initiatives have been taken by the government and the private sector to make the vaccine easily available to the people in a quick time.
“The government is preparing for the vaccine to be available to the people of the country as soon as it reaches the international market,” he said at a function at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi in Dhaka yesterday. The event was organised to distribute high-quality N-95 and surgical masks among doctors working as frontline fighters against the novel coronavirus. Quader said the Covid-19 situation may change any time and the government has taken proper measures to handle any emergency. He also directed the leaders and activists of the Awami League and its various allied organisations to launch an awareness campaign among the people. The minister said the situation would have been easier to deal with and the loss of life and property of the people would have been much less if an evil group had not capitalised on the humanitarian crisis of the epidemic. The people must be vigilant against this evil force and build a strong resistance against it. The government sticks to its “zero tolerance” policy against corruption, he added. Regarding the recent claim of the BNP secretary general that the fire incident in three slums of the capital was mysterious, Quader said the incident is mysterious, however, who is behind this mystery is being investigated. It will be investigated whether it was a part of any conspiracy to disrupt the peace of the country.
He said the BNP itself conducts fire terrorism and blames the government. The programme was jointly organised by the Relief and Social Welfare and the Health and Population subcommittee of the Awami League. The bridges minister joined the ceremony via video conference. Awami League Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury, Joint-General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Education and Manpower Secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa, and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan were present at the Dhanmondi office.
