Says CDA Chairman Forkan Ahmed
Md Joynal Abedin Khan with HM Faridul Alam Shain: M illions of tourists from home and abroad have special attraction for Cox’s Bazar, the tourist city of Bangladesh, also the world’s longest unbroken sandy sea beach with a gentle slope to the blue water of the Bay of Bengal.
The tourists also fascinated for sightsee to natural spots for good food, communications, accommodations (hotels, motels and guest houses), bathing, swimming, jogging and sun-bathing. Tourists also opt Cox’s Bazar as they move dozens of spots, including St. Martins, Himchhari, Inani Beach, Laboni Beach, Buddhist temples at Ramu and Sonadia islands in a short time due to easy, cheap and comfortable transportation.
Realizing the potentiality of the city, the government has taken to boost various arrangements for making it an international standard based tourist spot and formed Cox’s Bazar Development Authority (CDA) in 2015 to implement the respective plans.
The government also has appointed Lt. Col. (Retd.) Forkan Ahmed as the CDA Chairman for the thriving of development and aesthetic activities.
The Daily Industry (DI) district correspondent H M Faridul Alam Shain took an exclusive interview of the CDA Chairman on his charismatic performance on October 21. The magnetic parts of the conversation are given bellow:
DI: Have you any dream about the development of Cox’s Bazar?
CDA Chairman: I have an alone dream of remodeling, developing and beautifying of Cox’s Bazar, which is a personnel pledged to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The implementation of the dream is only a matter of time.
DI: Do you have a future plan to make Cox’s Bazar as international level tourist spot?
Chairman: The whole territory of the city will get re-shape with significant structure as the native and the foreign tourists rush to make their memorial tour for considering the international facilities that going some undergoing projects.
DI: Which projects may raise confidence on your activities?
Chairman: A lot of activities have taken for remodeling the tourist city that may grow the confidence and light of hope to the people. For examples- building of Sheikh Hasina City, Bangabandhu Theme Park, 10th storied magnificent office Bhaban of CDA, Star Fish Sculpture, Rupchada Sculpture, Sampan Sculpture, Jhinuk Sculpture, Obichal Sculpture, citywide enlightening project, Laldighi, Goldighi, Bazarkata pond may grow public level confidence.
DI: What are the positions of projects?
Chairman: The major portion of multi-dimensional works including building of sculpture, roads and other constructions as well as reshaping barrage and dredging through different projects have done and rest of the works are going on full-swing to complete by schedule time.
DI: Have you confidence about the completion of the projects accordingly?
Chairman: Yes. The CDA has started the work under a master plan to ensure facilities to tourists at any cost.
DI: What is the extra advantage for tourists in Cox’s Bazar?
Chairman: The shark-free beach has its own reputation for bathing, sunbathing, swimming, jogging and surfing. The breath taking beauty of the setting sun behind the vast sea is fascinating. Visits to the beautiful places like Himchhari, Teknaf, Inani Beach, Laboni Beach, Buddhist temples at Ramu and islands such as Sonadia, St. Martin and Maheshkhali can make your journey memorable.
DI: What is helpful to make memory for tourists in Cox’s Bazar?
Chairman: Sunbathing, swimming, jogging and surfing in Cox’s Bazar beach, I think will be memorable for every tourist. The breathtaking beauty of the setting sun behind the vast sea is fascinating. Visits to the beautiful places like Himchhari, Inani Beach, Laboni Beach, St. Martin make your journey memorable.
DI: What is the comfortable time for tours in Cox’s Bazar?
Chairman: There are immense potentials in attracting millions of tourists in every year. The entire beach is a stretch of golden sandy sea beach which is reachable by motorbike. The beach gets busy from November to early March. If you want to avoid the herd of both domestic and international tourists, then the best time to take a trip there would be between April and September, preferably April and June.
DI: Have tourists get extra facilities in Cox’s Bazar?
Chairman: The Cox’s Bazar has a unique beauty with many tourist spots under 690 square miles area.
DI: Which types of transport facilities for tourists available?
Chairman: We have taken different transportation projects through vessels, vehicles, trains and flights directly and indirectly. The marine drive road is ready for tourists and constructing works of international airport and installing of modern rail trucks are going on.
DI: Have suitable accommodations arrangements?
Chairman: The tourists may get natural sea food, local food and foreign food in all luxurious five-star and three-star hotels, motels and guest houses.
DI: Mention the food and drinking facilities in Cox’s Bazar?
Chairman: Thai, Chinese and continental foods are available in major hotels and restaurants. Various types of local dishes such as Rezala, Korma, mutton, beef, chicken, different types of kababs, polao, biriyani, and khichuri are also very popular. Seafood is most popular here. Different types of fishes, prawns, lobsters, squid, octopus are available here in reasonable restaurants and roadside food chains. If you are a food connoisseur, then you shouldn’t miss fresh vetki, smoked hilsa fish, chingrimalaikari and prawn dopyaza here. Also Tea, lassi, green coconut water and different types of soft drinks are available in beach areas. Hard drinks are also available in some selected hotels and restaurants.
DI: Have any security measures?
Chairman: We have taken massive security measures in inter the city mainly on roads, spots and residents. In addition to widening the road, sidewalks, foot over bridges, drains, bridge-culverts and cycle ways will be constructed for tourists on both sides of the road. There will also be street lights and CCTV cameras, WiFi connection and greenery on both sides.
