Golam Mostafa Jibon: Coronavirus that spread panic across the world including Bangladesh has become a great threat for the tourism and business sector.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh government has prohibited entry of China nationals into the country to avert the outbreak of coronavirus.
Besides, many countries have already suspended all communications with China centering the deadly virus attack.
On the other hand, the number of people infected with the newly innovated virus is also reported outside of China especially German, Singapore, Thailand, Philippine, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, France, Taiwan, Nepal and United State.
Meanwhile, US has declared a public health emergency over the outbreak of the coronavirus in an epidemic form in China saying that, no foreign national, who has visited China in the last two weeks would be allowed to entry in the state.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in a press conference at the Foreign Ministry yesterday said,“Bangladesh government has temporarily issued a ban on arrival visa for the Chinese citizens centering the current epidemic outbreak of Wuhan Coronavirus.
Bangladesh has also brought back its 361 citizens from China, who arrived in the country early on Saturday. Of them, eight persons have been admitted to hospital and kept under special care.
Rest others have kept at Ashkona Hajj Camp for monitoring their health condition. Not only Bangladesh, many countries including Thailand have already decided to evacuate their nationals from China.
Seeking anonymity, a Biman official said, many passengers cancel the booking of flights, while many are not attending at the airport even after confirming of ticket in fear of coronavirus outbreak.
Aviation specialist Kazi Wahidul Alam said, Coronavirus may fall a negative and longstanding impact on tourism sector of the whole Asia. Huge quantity of tourists from China comes to Bangladesh every year. Similarly, many people go to China every year on different purposes including business related reason. Like those, many countries have a tourism link with China that is now at serious stake. Panic stricken people have now turned away from China. Many people of the globally has suspended travelling from a country to another.
Kamrul Islam, spokesman of non-government organization-US Bangla Airlines said, “The number of travelers has been declined compared the previous period centering the coronavirus spread. It has threatened airlines business as well as all tourism sectors of the global.”
According to a report, around 11 percent of the China economy depends on tourism. Employment of at least 2.80 crore people in China has been established centering the China tourism sector. China is the fourth largest tourist friendly country in the world after the United States, France and Spain. Around 6 crore tourists visited China in 2018.
Like China, Bangladesh is also tourism friendly country in the world. Huge number of people from different countries visits different places including Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet and Sundarban of Bangladesh every year. But, both the coming and going of the tourists, even traders have now become halted that threatening the country’s tourism industry seriously.
A senior officer of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation seeking anonymity told The Daily Industry, coronavirus has become a great threat for the tourism sector for all over of the world. Travelers have started cancelling their scheduled flights. Many are cancelling the booked tickets. All are now concern over their health. In this circumstance, country’s tourism sector is going to face a hard time.
It is to be mentioned that, coronavirus outbreak increased by a daily record up by 2,590 cases yesterday to top 14,000 as the quickly growing epidemic prompted global travel restrictions and evacuations.
Though, the National Health Commission claimed that, the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in China rose to 304 as of the end of Saturday, the unauthorized sources claimed the number several times higher than the mentioned number.
