Explosion at Pallabi PS
Golam Mostafa Jibon: The bomb carriers, who were arrested by Pallabi thana police from Kalshi graveyard area early yesterday, were rented killers, not militants. They don’t have involvement with any group of militants, said police.
After the furious explosion at Pallabi police station yesterday morning, the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the journalists that, “I believe that they have no link with militant outfit. Those, who were arrested by police, are members of dacoit or terrorist gang. However, investigation is going on to find out the real fact.”
“After completion of the investigation, the mystery will be unveiled,” he added. Monirul Islam, Chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transmission Crime Unit said, “The carriers of bomb are rented killers.
They are not members of any militant outfit. They carried bombs and took preparation to kill a local political leader centering an internal altercation.” Monirul came up with the remark quoting the arrested according to the primary interrogation.
Five persons including a police inspector were injured, while a bomb seized from three suspected criminals, was exploded at Pallabi Police Station in the city at around 4.30am.
The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Of them, condition of one person is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.
The injured were identified as Officer in Charge (Operation) of Pallabi thana Emranul Islam, SI Rumi, PSI Angkur and Shajib, and ‘Riyaz’, who is not a member of the police force.
Among the injured, Angkur suffered injuries to his eyes and was later referred to an eye hospital.
Shajib suffered ear injuries while Rumi and Riaz got injuries at their hands.
Inspector Emran received injuries below the knee of his left leg.
DMCH sources said, the wrist of police source Riaz’s left hand was cut off due to severely injuries. The finger of the right hand was also cut off following the same reason.
“His wrist and finger were amputated during surgery,” said Mohammad Alauddin, Residential Surgeon of Emergency Department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The incident has caused of panic among the general people as well as police personnel ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and during the corona pandemic.
Acting on a tip off that, a gang of terrorists was taking preparation to carry out criminal activities after gathering near Kalshi graveyard, a team of Pallabi thana police reached to the spot and nabbed three of them, while some others managed to flee.
During the drive, police also seized two Pistols, four rounds of bullet and a device, which was seen like a weigh machine, said Krishna Pada Roy, Additional Commissioner of DMP.
Later, the arrested were brought to Pallabi police station and interrogated by police. During the interrogation, the arrested informed that, there is bomb in the weigh machine like device.
Hearing the information, police checked the device in the room of concerned duty officer and became confirm about the matter.
Police instantly informed the matter to bomb disposal unit and called them upon to the police station. But, the bomb was exploded before reach of the specialist team leaving five persons including four cops injured.
“The device contained multiple explosives. One of them got exploded, while two others were defused by the bomb specialists,” Krisna Pada Roy Said.
High officials of DMP visited the spot and asked the concerned officials to take necessary steps in this regard.
A team of CID also collected samples from the spot for examining.
