Staff Correspondent: Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque said Bangladesh is avoiding any kind of military alliance to join another alliance protecting self interest.
He made the disclosure while attending the inaugural session of the conference styled, ‘Belt and Road: Bangladesh’s stance from a Comparative Perspective’ held at Hotel Gardenia in the capital yesterday Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) hosted the conference.
Speaking to the programme as the special guest, the Foreign Secretary said that the world is changing fast. We are in tune with this. That’s why Bangladesh avoids joining any kind of military alliance. “However, we are joining other alliances protecting our own interests”.
“We have joined the China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),” he said adding, “We hope to benefit from it. By joining this initiative, cooperation will increase on Bangladesh’s economy, business, trade, communication and other issues”.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, the chief guest of the conference, said that BRI is a platform of high level cooperation. This is very important for Bangladesh. He hoped that Bangladesh would benefit from using this platform.
